The issue that launched Ireland’s first and only military history magazine features two remarkable eyewitness accounts. The first account is an interview with Sergeant Joe Dunne from Co. Offaly. During the Second World War Joe served with the Irish Guards. Fighting his way through North Africa Joe went on to the Battle of Anzio. For his bravery he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. The second account is an interview with Major General Vincent Savino. General Savino served with the Irish Defence Forces for over 40 years. On United Nations service alone the Suez in the early 1970’s General Savino gives this firsthand account of life under fire as a United Nations observer.
